10 Days of Art in Provincetown, Blue DotRun(n) Shayo | IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST

An interactive performance, 2:30-3:30pm

Run(n) Shayo

I am an environmental site specific performance and film artist. I use film and video to create installations, combining multiple channel video projections with live art. My background as a dancer and an actor in theater and film influences my work for the screen. I graduated from a performance arts conservatory back in my native Tel Aviv in 1992, and in New York, from the HB studios in 2002 specializing in physical theater. I have performed in dance and theater groups in New York and internationally ever since. I am a self-taught video/film-maker, and I have been creating my own work I define as "Environmental Site Specific Performance art film." It explores the environmental aspects of landscapes through filmed performances. These works have been exhibited in Festivals, as the Mix experimental Queer Film Festival in New York, The Dance on Camera Festival New York, and Helsinki, Finland, 3rd world in Brooklyn, as well as in art galleries as Vox Populi, Grizzly-Grizzly in Philadelphia, AMP, Todd James Gallery, all as part of group showings. I started to explore new ways to move my body after I was diagnosed with Lyme in 2010, which affected my ability to move and dance. I studied Butoh with Yukio Wagouri, who is a disciple of Hijikata, the founder of the Butoh, which helped me to reinvent my physical body and my creative process, it was a perfect form to use in my new work and it inspired me to create a unique language that resulted in a series performances, characters, and video installations.

Linda

Leading Humanity in a Path to Global Peace and calmer weather patterns ... 1-2pm

Leading Humanity in a Path to Global Peace and calmer weather patterns ... is the powerful dynamic that inspires Linda Ohlson Graham's award-winning photography and ecstatic poetry. Linda feels an intimate connection to the cosmos: she has sailed thousands of miles with the night sky in view: 4 hours on ... 4 hours off throughout the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Central and South America, even off shore to Cape Cod one spring. This experience has rooted her more deeply in her desire to contribute to WORLD PEACE and calmer weather patterns.

Linda also lived in (1984-93) and co-directed (1984-96) the J.M.W. Turner Museum in Denver, CO. During this time the Museum was chosen 'One of the 99 Finest Museums in America' by Atlantic Monthly.

From March 2010 through March 2012 she was Colorado District 2 co-ordinator for the Campaign to Establish a US Dept. of Peace. Linda led a lobbying team in the Washington, DC office of Congressman Jared Polis, who signed HR808 a few days later. In October 2010 Linda was named CO Department of Peace Poet Laureate. Her photography and spiritual writing portray the richness of her life's experience. http://www.lindaohlsongraham.com/

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the 10th Muse of Latin America washes ashore in Provincetown

Part 2 of THE aMUSEd SERIES

Each new wave of Wash Ashore, from the English up to today, has brought their particular struggles to this sandy spit. Without the help and acceptance of those here before them these newly landed certainly would not have survived the challenges of the day but without their own cultural richness could they have prospered?

What drives the able hands? What myths, heroes and idols inform the heart?

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, 1651-1695, renowned throughout Latin America for her poetry, prose, drama, music, her legendary intelligence and fervor for learning, her voice as a first feminist and critic of the Church.  The 10th Muse, the Phoenix of New Spain. Today, her image adorns the Mexican 200 peso bill. How is it that she is virtually unknown in the U.S?

Performance artist Melissa Nussbaum Freeman explores the hidden presence of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Sister Joan Agnes of the Cross) in this new piece with music, poetry and other voices.
THE aMUSEd SERIES is Melissa´s ongoing exploration of ordinary and extra-ordinary women.  Part 1 of THE aMUSEd SERIES presented last year at AMP, included a segment of MARILYN MONROE, COMMUNIST (directed by David Drake, selected for DIVA Fest, IndieFringe; and performed in last year´s 10 Days That Shook the World Festival) and DOÑA PAULA OF SANTA CRUZ, THE TRUE STORY OF A MEXICAN HEALER, (Mass Cultural Council grantee; Women @ Work Fest, NYC) Both one-woman shows written and performed by Melissa.

Since 1984, the Center for Coastal Studies has freed more than ninety large whales from life threatening entanglements, using techniques developed by Center staff. The Center is the only organization on the east coast of the United States federally authorized, by National Marine Fisheries Service, to disentangle large, free swimming whales, such as the humpback and the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.... Jennifer Moller --> Seas, 3-5pm

Seas is a dynamic video installation where the wave functions as the perfect metaphor for consciousness.

The images used in this video piece were presented to me on an extremely cold day walking along the Cape Cod bay. The sun was low in the sky, raking the late afternoon light across the surface of the ocean. There was no saturated color so the scene was almost monochromatic. Broken chunks of ice formed along the shoreline extending out to sea about 10' to 15', and the beach was covered with large block shaped ice floats. The bay actually looked like a large white glistening slushy made up of crushed ice.

I noticed the extraordinary beauty of horizontal line, as the waves rhythmically rolled under the bulky ice. I watched as wave after wave cast its dark black linear shadow over and over again. The scene was a kind of live tracing of the vast ocean, the marks made in horizontal lines, a large moving drawing. I was entranced as I watched the repeated movement. I had a camcorder, a tripod, and a DAT, digital audio equipment with me. I attempted to capture what I was seeing and feeling that day. The wind was very cold and blowing hard.

Later, in the warm environment of my room I thought more about the wave experience and how it related to meditation. I had been exploring philosophical ideas about consciousness and I saw a connection with the form of the "wave" and the experience of human breathing. I was meditating and reading about brain wave states, specifically theta states that are reached during meditation.
I edited the work with this in mind. Ultimately, I desire to be quiet and still and experience the divine, my "seas" piece is at its core motivated by this desire as is, "pools" a current body of work.
